What Team Whistles Are Watching This Halloween

With Halloween around the corner and all of us embracing the prospect of a cosy night in, we asked our in-house team what they’ll be watching this weekend. After all, there’s nothing better than curling up in a blanket (or five), sipping a seasonal beverage and terrifying yourself with a classic horror movie. We’ve rounded up everything from folk horrors and timeless thrillers to light-hearted fantasy films to enjoy this Halloween.

Midsommar

“Midsommar is a folk horror masterpiece and I can’t wait to revisit it this weekend. The trippy visuals are both captivating and unsettling – it’s the kind of film that leaves a lasting effect on you for days. I also love Florence Pugh and find the relationship dynamic of the two lead characters totally fascinating.” Charlotte, Senior Brand Editor & Creative Producer

Lost Boys

“For me, Lost Boys is the ultimate vampire movie and one I watch every Halloween. An American teen horror film, it’s title is a reference to the Lost Boys in Peter Pan who, like the vampires, never want to grow up. It’s an absolute classic and Kiefer Sutherland’s 80s style is just too good.” Anna, Senior PR & Comms Manager

Hereditary

“The acting, the plot and the soundtrack of this film are one-of-a-kind. Starring Toni Collette as a woman reeling from multiple deaths in her household, you’ll find yourself wanting to turn away throughout – but you just can’t! That’s the sign of an ultimate horror production to me. I also think Hereditary represents a new wave of horror movies.” Camila, Brand Styling Editor

Beetlejuice

“It’s not a terrifying choice but I love to watch Beetlejuice on Halloween – it’s my favourite film by Tim Burton. Blending American fantasy and comedy, it follows a deceased couple who have become ghosts and hire a malicious spirit to drive away the new family in their home. I can’t get enough of the soundtrack and costume design and I’m a huge fan of Winona Ryder.” Hollie, Visual Creative Manager

The Shining

“It’s got to be The Shining for me every time – and I still find it absolutely terrifying. A Kubrick classic, the interiors and set design are unparalleled and have truly stood the test of time. Jack Nicholson is also a favourite actor of mine and his performance in this film is amazing – I particularly love the ballroom scene.” Kate, Head of Creative

Practical Magic

“I’m all about the 90s classic Practical Magic when Halloween comes around. It’s a rom-com, a drama and a horror film all at once – so it ticks all my boxes. The plot revolves around two witch sisters who have been raised by eccentric aunts in a small town, and now face a curse which threatens to stop them finding true love. Also, who doesn’t love Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman?” Catriona, Senior E-Commerce Trading Manager

Under the Shadow

“This Halloween, I’ll be watching Under the Shadow, which is a film focused on a mother and daughter plagued by supernatural forces after an air-strike hits their apartment block during the Iran-Iraq War. Convinced that the spirits are trying to possess her daughter, Shideh confronts them in order to protect them both. The film is a testament to how great Iranian cinema is and is excellently eerie and unsettling, exploring a darkness that can linger in the home and in the minds of women.” Donna, Editorial & Social Media Assistant

Get Out

“I can’t wait to watch Get Out again this weekend. Written and directed by Jordan Peele, it is an incredibly clever exploration of racism within the genre of horror, with moments of dark comedy weaved throughout. The film also manages to reference many tensions from the dynamics of mixed relationships and eugenics to the slave trade and police brutality. Get Out will have you on the edge of your seat one minute and laughing the next – and Halloween is the perfect time to revisit it.” Helena, Junior Content & Social Media Editor

The Silence of The Lambs

“I’ll be returning to the 1991 psychological thriller The Silence of The Lambs this Halloween. The plot follows a young FBI trainee played by Jodie Foster, who is asked to apprehend a serial killer and interview Dr. Hannibal Lector (a psychiatrist and psychopath who is already in prison for murder and cannibalism) to try and understand the mind of a killer. It’s dark and mesmerising and will have you gripped from start to finish.” Georgia, Communications Coordinator
