International Women’s Day: Six Instagram Accounts To Follow
For International Women’s Day, we’re feeling inspired by the women who want to celebrate other women. From a creative agency growing a female-led network, to the insta-poet behind Milk and Honey, we’re giving you the rundown of our top six Instagram accounts to follow that address the issues, challenges and achievements of women.
1. All Womxn Project, @allwomxnproject
All Womxn Project is a nonprofit foundation pushing the boundaries in image-making, providing the world with true-to-life, positive and unretouched images of women. Their Instagram is a source for inspirational quotes from activists, models and creative directors, alongside powerful imagery of women of varying colour, bodyshape and age. Founders Charli Howard and Clémentine Desseaux are the creative genius behind this project, fighting to promote the idea that physical attributes are not what define women – it’s strength and character that does.
2. The Wing, @the.wing
Audrey Gelman and Lauren Kassan are the founders of the the women-only club and co-working space, The Wing. Based in New York City (with new spaces opening up in Washington DC and future expansion planned for LA and San Francisco), The Wing was born out of the belief that women need – and deserve – a multi-purpose space designed to make modern life easier, and that great things happen when women collaborate. Building a community of women from diverse backgrounds, The Wing may not be available in the UK as of yet, but following their Instagram is guaranteed to make you feel like a member of the circle.
3. Yonder Collective, @yondercollective
Yonder Collective invites us to gather together and share conversations over the dinner table. Founder Emma Chapman-Burnett and creative director Rebecca Storey are working to create a community of like-minded individuals, hoping to provoke stimulating conversation, new ideas and collaborations centred around a themed dinner party with handpicked artisan food. Their Instagram is a source for useful tips and daily inspiration for interior decoration and dinner party styling – and it’s beautifully curated.
4. Rupi Kaur, @rupikaur_
Rupi Kaur is a number one New York Times bestselling author and illustrator of milk and honey and the sun and her sunflowers. After rising to fame from posting short visual poetry on her Instagram, Rupi Kaur initially self-published her debut collection of poems in milk and honey in 2014 to widespread popularity. Her poignant verses touch on themes of love, healing, and femininity but also delves into trauma, abuse and migration. Follow her journey on Instagram as Rupi documents her travels and her playful personal style alongside extracts from her collection of poems.
5. Women Who, @womenwho
Author of Little Black Book: A Toolkit for Working Women, writer and brand consultant Otegha Uwagba is the founder of Women Who, a London-based network for creative working women. Creating a unique platform for women working in the creative industries, the initiative aims to connect, support and inspire through publications, online content and events. Their online website provides new ideas and helpful tips for getting things done and approaching work in a fresh way, while events cover topics on personal branding and why money matters.
6. Babyface, @bby__fce
Claire Burman and Nellie Eden are the founders of Babyface, an out-of-the-ordinary creative agency built on the power of networking. Inspired by the lack of an exclusive platform for women to broadcast their talents and careers, Babyface has brought together individuals and clients in a vast community to create forward-thinking work that acts as a voice for contemporary culture. From producing editorials and lookbooks to exercise classes and panel discussions, plus a regular podcast on NTS Radio, Babyface showcases new female talent with aims to collaborate, converse and support one another.
